mobile Video Optimization Gateway (mVOG™)

Ortiva's mVOG™ (mobile Video Optimization Gateway) provides a comprehensive mobile streaming solution to mobile network operators (MNO) and managed service providers (MSP).

The mVOG works within the video delivery infrastructure of the MNO or MSP. It provides a complete set of content management and distribution features, including:

Discovery
Flexible methods for discovering on-deck content available for download from content providers.

Transcoding
Ortiva’s products handle a wide variety of file formats, and audio and video codecs. Common file formats include support for .3gp, .3g2, .avi, .mp4, and .mov. Common audio and video codecs supported include AAC, AMR, aacPlusV1, MPEG–4, H.263, and H.264.

Asset Preparation and Storage
The mVOG, and future extensions, examines and prepares ingested assets. Based upon media-specific attributes, asset preparation and storage is unique for each asset to ensure easy retrieval and processing.

Adaptation
The core media adaptation on each asset occurs on live and on–demand content. Ortiva’s proprietary technology can take a single, high quality asset and perform the necessary adaptation to take advantage of available bandwidth while ensuring resiliency from unpredictable noise conditions in the mobile environment. While other solutions may provide bit rate adaptation, it is Ortiva’s expertise in handling noise and congestion while improving video coverage that separates it from other solutions.

Streaming
The mVOG takes requests from subscribers and streams assets to them. With the intelligence to understand the handset request, the optimal stream is delivered to each subscriber based upon the specific asset, handset type, and network conditions for the session.

Ad Insertion
The mVOG's comprehensive ad insertion support includes pre-, mid-, and post-roll advertisements. Ad content can be customized on a pre-session basis, delivering the right ad to the right subscriber.

The mVOG does not require custom handset software, nor does it use any proprietary over-the-air protocols. From an Operations perspective, the mVOG requires only a single, high-quality stream to provide optimized streaming to 3GPP-compliant handsets in support of numerous codecs, resolutions, and players. Ortiva's approach is to integrate into the existing environment to minimize changes to an MNO's existing business rules and processes.

Improving the quality of mobile video increases service uptake, revenue and profits. It leads to lower customer support costs and reduced customer churn. And, the mVOG helps MNOs leverage existing network infrastructure to improve operating ROI, and reduce and defer capital expenditures for providing services.

The mVOG is available in a base system configuration for ingest, adaptation and streaming. Its modular architecture scales as the number of users and usage rates increase. Additional capabilities like ad insertion, fast channel switching, fast start up and operational integration provide further value to the MNO seeking to improve its mobile video offering.
